Themes
The increasing complexity and frequency of tsunami-related hazards in both seismic and non-seismic contexts demand a renewed scientific focus,
multi-sectoral collaboration, and global cooperation. The International Tsunami Symposium brings together leading experts, practitioners,
and stakeholders to address the full spectrum of tsunami science, risk reduction, and resilience-building.
The following thematic areas have been thoughtfully selected to reflect the multidisciplinary nature of tsunami research and the evolving challenges in
warning and mitigation:
- Tsunami hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment
- Paleotsunami Studies
- Instrumentation and observation network
- Tsunamigenic earthquake source mechanisms
- Non-seismic and Complex tsunami Research
- Tsunami modelling (seismic and non-seismic sources)
- Experimental studies
- Advanced Techniques (Real-time inundation modelling, use of high-performance computing, AI/ML etc.)
- Field Surveys
- Tsunami Data Analysis
- Meteotsunamis including 2022 Tonga event
- Communicating Uncertainties
- Tsunami Awareness and Preparedness
- Societal Dimensions of Tsunami Risk
- International Cooperation and Private Partnerships
- Special Session on Kamchatka Tsunami and South Alaska landslide Tsunami
